To celebrate National Public Lands Day, Sitka Trail Works and the Tongass National Forest Sitka Ranger District are partnering to host a volunteer work party on Harbor Mountain.
The Harbor Mountain Recreation Area is a beloved destination by locals and visitors, with road access to stunning alpine views. One popular overlook is a short distance from the road, but traverses a wetland that has turned to mud from heavy foot traffic. STW and the USFS are building a short trail and established viewpoint site and are in need of volunteers to support the revegetation efforts after initial trail construction.
On Saturday, September 16th, the NPLD volunteer party will focus efforts on restoring alpine vegetation to the edges of the gravel pathway, replanting mosses and ground cover to speed recovery of the surrounding area. We invite you to join us in these efforts and celebrate our public lands. Please register below if you plan to attend!
