On July 18th and August 15th, we’re hiking up Mount Edgecumbe, the dormant volcano that looms over Sitka Sound. And on August 1st, we’re biking and hiking across the middle of Kruzof to visit the enormous sandy beach at Shelikof Bay.

Shelikof Beach is an expansive sandy beach on the outer coast of Kruzof Island. After unloading your bike from the boat, we’ll ride across the island to the end of the road, where we hike the final leg through flower-filled Iris Meadows and majestic old growth forest to the beach on the open ocean.
The trail to Mount Edgecumbe weaves through miles of open muskegs to the steep volcanic slopes that climb well above tree line. On a clear day, hikers are rewarded with spectacular 360 degree views of Sitka Sound.
On the day of the trip, the group will meet at Crescent Harbor 20 minutes before the Allen Marine boat departs at 7:00 am. The hikes are led by volunteer board members, who carry first aid kits, bear spray, and VHF radios. Tickets, which are $110, cover the cost of transportation and support the mission of Sitka Trail Works. Bring your own food, water, and extra layers appropriate for the weather.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default”][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”2159,2161,2163″ layout=”3″ gallery_style=”1″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
