At our Annual Meeting on October 25th, Sitka Trail Works opened the door to the community to hear ideas about the future of our local trail system. Attendees shared dreams and discussed possibilities for expansions to our network of recreation infrastructure, launching a new phase of planning.

What do you wish Sitka’s trail system offered? More connections in town for walking and biking between neighborhoods? A multi-day backpacking destination to access the backcountry?
We’ve developed a commenting tool that allows users to scroll around a map and note their interests. What do you think about these proposed routes? If you have an idea for a trail that’s not listed, leave a comment or get in touch with us!
Overall I am very pleased with our trail system.I have a few comments to offer.
1) Maintaining what we have. As we all know you have to take care of your assets or a big bill comes along further down the trail.
2) If your looking for a new project I’d recommend a trail branch up the left hand branch of Indian river. It is an amazing place up there toward the middle Sister. A lovely stretch of very large spruce and hemlock. Much of this area wouldn’t need a major trail transformation.The big tree grove could be a semi wild trail because of its open aspects amongst the big ass trees.
