TRAIL PROJECT CREW
Sea Lion Cove Trail 2022
Crew rate: $25-35 per hour based on skills and experience

Sitka Trail Works is hiring 3 crew members to tackle reconstruction of sections of the Sea Lion Cove Trail this fall. The project will involve 10-14 days of work including in town preparations and travel time. The crew will deploy to Kalinin Bay and stay on site in tents or on a boat while tackling a variety of trail projects. Projects will include clearing downed trees, brushing, removing rotten trail structures, excavating, rebuilding steps and tread, hauling gravel, building boardwalk, and other improvements to the well-loved trail.

REQUIRED:
• Positive attitude while working outdoors in inclement weather for multiple days
• Dedication to safe work practices and tool use
• Ability to work independently and communicate with a team

ADDITIONAL QUALITIES WE’RE LOOKING FOR
• Experience with trail construction or other building or outdoor trades
• Experience with chainsaws and power tools
• Experience with wilderness first aid and backcountry safety
• Familiarity with safety in bear country

Compensation: Wage is $25-35 per hour, depending on skills and experience.

Location: The crew will assemble gear and materials in Sitka, then transportation will be provided to Kalinin Bay on the north end of Kruzof Island. The crew will sleep on a boat or camp in tents near the trail.

Schedule: The crew will begin preparing to mobilize in late September and depart for Kalinin Bay around September 24th or 25th. The crew will work on site until departing on October 2nd or 3rd. The schedule may change due to weather or other constraints.
