Summer Camps 2024

Sitka Trail Works is excited to offer our second full summer of camps for youth ages 8-18! Themes range from marine debris clean ups to scavenger hunts and mysteries. Our camps are free and if your child doesn’t have proper clothes or footwear to participate in any camp, we can purchase these for your child. Email youth@sitkatrailworks.org with any questions. Scroll down for more details and to sign up, there is only one sign up form for each age group, you just select multiple camps if your child is interested in multiple!

Entering Grades 2-5

Tidal Times: Exploring Sitka’s Tidepools and our Ocean Footprint, June 24-27, 8:30 am – 12 pm

Join Sitka Trail Works with special guests from the Sitka Sound Science Center and the Ocean Conservancy for a camp where we explore local tidepools, learn about marine debris and our impacts on the ocean, and make art from found materials! Every day will be spent outside in the tidelands. Boots are strongly recommended, and we are able to purchase boots for your child if needed.

Entering grades 5-8

Trail Tales & Muskeg Mosaics, July 8-12, 12 pm – 4 pm

Offered in partnership with the Youth Advocates of Sitka (YAS), TT&MM is a summer camp focused on art and storytelling in nature. We will be getting outside and moving our bodies everyday. Other activities include arts & crafts, hiking, beading, harvesting, games, storytelling, beach days, gardening, and more. This camp is Monday-Friday at Keet. Lunch and snacks are included. Clue Crew: Scavenger Hunts & Murder Mystery, August 5-8, 12 pm – 4 pm

Also offered in partnership with YAS, Clue Crew will include outdoor scavenger hunts and costume building that lead up to a final murder mystery picnic. Campers will be assigned their character at the begining of the week and build the persona all throughout camp including their costumes! Families welcome at last day picnic. This camp is Monday-Thursday at Keet. Lunch and snacks are included all week for campers.

Entering grades 10-12

Outdoor Industry Professional Development Camp, June 17-18 & 20-21, 9 am – 4 pm

Offered in partnership with Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL), this camp is for high school age students who may want to learn more about what a career in the outdoor industry might look like. Outdoor professionals from Sitka will come each day to offer a “day in the life” experience for campers. They will share how they got to where they are, what opportunities are available in Sitka, and what higher ed choices youth can make to end up there. We will hear from a biologist, archeologist, artist, trail worker, marine debris researcher, and more!

We are hiring High School Interns through the Sitka Tribe of Alaska and Tlingit & Haida!

Tribal Citizens aged 16-24 are welcome to apply for two Outdoor Education Internships with Sitka Trail Works available through the Youth Employment Services Program. The Internship runs from June 10th – August 16th. Interns will help with summer camps and experience their own professional development experiences throughout the summer.
